Days 48 & 49: Flu (cont.)
Our family illness lasted through the weekend, and I became a potato. I am amazed by how easily a routine disruption completely unravels my ability to stick to a plan and stick to it. As a stay-at-home mom, I generally get a good chunk of time five days a week to do laundry, cleaning, meal prep, and general logistical organization for the family. When I don’t have that time, the state of the house deteriorates pretty quickly. I was useless when the needs were all mixed around and different.
I have to put in a lot of effort to follow a routine, and even then I have to put a lot of effort into staying flexible and forgiving of myself when I slip up. It may be ADHD or perimenopause (or simply trying to exist in the late-stage capitalist system that eroded the “village” of family support). Whatever it is, I am going to consider this weekend a glitch and start again tomorrow.
